Why Get This Genetic Test?

A genetic test for the MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) enzyme helps you understand how you metabolize folate (vitamin B9) and homocysteine. This can influence overall health, response to certain medications (such as antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and methotrexate), and risk of specific conditions.

How Does It Work?

The test analyzes common MTHFR mutations (especially C677T and A1298C) that can impair enzyme function, leading to elevated homocysteine—a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, stroke, blood clots, neural tube defects, and issues with red blood cell production, mental health, and cognition.

What’s Included?

This standalone MTHFR test provides a simple report of your mutation status. Please note: MTHFR analysis is already included in the Rx Report™ – Antidepressants test, so there’s no need to order it separately if you’ve purchased that service.

What Is the Testing Process?

After you purchase the test, you’ll receive a DNA sample collection package containing:

• A DNA sample kit with instructions
• A prepaid return envelope for shipping your sample to our laboratory

Collect your sample per the instructions and send it back. You’ll receive an email notification once your results are ready.

How Long Until I Receive the Kit?

If you’re in Ontario, delivery typically takes 3–5 business days. For major cities outside Ontario, delivery may take 5–7 business days. Rural or remote locations may take longer. Delivery timelines depend on factors like weather, postal delays, or strikes. PPI cannot guarantee delivery within the estimated timeframe under exceptional circumstances.

Is Shipping Included?

All shipping costs are included. Provide your full address to receive the kit via Canada Post. For express or Purolator shipping (1–3 business days), select “Priority Shipping” at checkout for an additional $50 fee.

Turnaround Time for the Report

Reports are usually delivered within 5–7 business days after we receive your samples in our laboratory.
